KLS - quality management system

Companies that perform plumbing, gas, sewerage and electrical installations must have an approved quality management system (QMS) to obtain a company authorisation.

Choice of KLS and control body

When your company applies for authorisation, your Quality Management System (QMS) must be fully developed and pre-approved by one of the approved inspection bodies, which you can find at The website of the Danish Safety Technology Authority.

The approval process

When the authority approves your KLS, they forward the pre-approval to the Danish Safety Technology Authority. Once approved, you can officially apply for authorisation. After authorisation, you must have an inspection visit within the first year and then maintain the authorisation every two years to avoid losing it.

It is important to arrange audits with your control body to avoid periods without authorisation. If the new authorisation is issued 3 months before the expiry of the old one, it is valid from the start of the expiry date of the old one.

If your company operates in multiple authorised areas, you can use one KLS that covers them all, but you need an authorisation for each area.

The content of a KLS

Your company's KLS must contain:

  • Company data, including company name, company registration details and address.
  • Organisation chart, with names that easily identify people in their roles.
  • Responsibilities, competences and authorities for employees.
  • Documentation for the professionally responsible person approved by the Danish Tax Agency.
  • Description of the authorisation area in relation to the company's business areas and applicable laws.
  • Management evaluation and a plan to improve any deviations.

Your KLS should also describe how your organisation and the responsible professional ensure:

  • Correct staffing.
  • Adequate instruction.
  • Final check/verification.
  • Supervision of work.

A KLS is a system that companies in the plumbing, gas, sewerage and electrical installation sector must have in order to obtain a company authorisation. It ensures that installations comply with applicable standards.

When you apply for authorisation, your KLS must be fully prepared and pre-approved by an inspection body approved by the Danish Safety Technology Authority. You can find these bodies on their website.

After your inspection body has approved your KLS, the pre-authorisation is sent to the Danish Safety Technology Authority. You can then apply for authorisation and will be inspected within the first year and maintain the approval every two years.

A KLS must contain company data, organisation chart, responsibilities, documentation for the responsible professional, description of the authorisation area and management evaluation.

Businesses in the electrical, plumbing, sewerage and gas sectors require careful management and monitoring to meet strict standards. A KLS helps ensure this.

BMF is implemented in organisations certified by bodies such as Bureau Veritas Certification and acts as an extension to Microsoft SharePoint.

Yes, an ISO certification can replace your KLS if it covers your specific field of expertise.
